Education:



  • He finished elementary school and high school in Sarajevo. He enrolled in medical studies in 1967 and graduated in February 1973 at the Medical Faculty in Belgrade. From 01.10.1974 to 30.09.2014. employed at the Neurosurgical Clinic of the Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade. He passed the specialist exam in neurosurgery at the Medical Faculty in Belgrade in 1980. He obtained the title of Master of Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade in 1978, and completed his doctoral dissertation at the same faculty in 1987. From his election as an assistant trainee for the subject of neurosurgery at the Medical Faculty in Belgrade in 1979, he was elected to all titles until his election as a Professor in 1997.

Work Experience:




  • Within his professional activity in the Neurosurgical Clinic of the Clinical Center of Serbia, he was: Head of the Neurosurgery Department at the KCS (Clinical Center of Serbia) Emergency Room, Head of the Department at the KCS Neurosurgical Clinic, Assistant Director and Director of the KCS Neurosurgical Clinic, KCS Medical Director and Deputy General Director of the Neurosurgical Clinic. Since June 2015, he has been employed as an advisor to the director of the Clinical Center of Montenegro. He was a member of the publishing boards and editorial boards of the journals Chirurgia Neurologica, Acta Chirurgica Jugoslavica, Chirurgia Urgens, European Journal of Emergency Surgery, Acta Chirurgica Macedonica and Contributions MANU.
  • From 1992 to 2002 he was President of the Association of Neurosurgeons of Yugoslavia and a delegate to the European (EANS) and World (WFNS) Association of Neurosurgeons and as a member of the Executive Committee. He organized several professional meetings and congresses.
  • During his professional activities he attended professional trainings at UC San Francisco, UCLA Los Angeles, Mt Sinai Hospital, New York, University Hospital, Zurich, National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, London, Neurosurgery Clinic, Hanover and Neurosurgery Hospital, Lyon.
  • As a visiting professor, he lectured at USC, Los Angeles, the neurosurgical clinic of the University of Verona. He was a member of the Main Commission for the establishment of the Medical Faculty in Podgorica. He taught neurosurgery at the Medical Faculties in Kragujevac, Podgorica and Banja Luka.
  • Since 2006, he has been elected a Professor of neuroscience at the State University of Novi Pazar.

Accreditation:




  • He has won several awards for his work, including the October Award of the City of Belgrade and the award of the Karić Brothers Foundation and the Gold Medal of Merit of the Republic of Serbia.
  • He was the manager and participant in several projects of the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Serbia, Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts and Clinical Center of Montenegro.
  • He has published 222 professional scientific papers, 26 of which in leading international journals. He is the author and co-author of nine monographs, four of which have been published in English by well-known international publishers. He is the author and co-author of four textbooks in the field of neurosurgery.
  • He was invited to give eleven lectures at various international conferences.
  • He has been a mentor in seven master's theses and seven doctoral dissertations.
  • He is a member of the Serbian Medical Association, the Association of Neurosurgeons of Serbia and Southeast Europe, EANS, WFNS and the Scientific Society of Serbia.
  • Since 2015, he has been a member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and since 2018 of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
  • Married. Wife Ivanka - University professor, daughter Lidija, doctor and son Dušan, graduate economist.
